Bathtub Refinishing - The Many Benefits

Ironically, vintage bathtubs and vintage bath basins are two of the most popular trends in remodeling and home decor. Antiques never go out of style and that is why vintage bathroom fixtures will always be in style. It has taken America by storm. Auction houses sell antique claw foot tubs at astounding prices and new companies are opening up all over to specialize in the refinishing of these.



Now that everything has been prepped, it's time to apply a coating of the bonding agent with a clean cloth. This coat will need to dry about five minutes before you're ready to move on. Open the window and put on your mask. If you don't have a window, put on a respirator. You're ready to spray on your first coat of primer.

Next, hardware; update all the old door knobs, towel bars and toilet paper holders with the latest finishes; bronze or brushed nickel (note: be sure to do this BEFORE you paint). You can typically replace all of the hardware in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath tub restoration home for between $200.00 and $300.00 from a big box store.

Try using soft cloth dipped in un-diluted White Vinegar or Cider Vinegar to restore your chrome. For worse deposits of grease of gummy residue soak in a bucket or small tub, remove and rub with a cloth, or paper towel.

You should give your newly glazed tub at least 12 hours to dry before touching it. Even so, make sure that you give it at least 48 hours before you attempt to use it again. You can then reapply the grout and caulking. Even though bathtub reglazing can be a complicated project, you will find that it is well worth it. If you are not comfortable performing this job by yourself then make sure to have someone who is experienced to help you out.
